Some of you might remember the grey C210/240K i bought a few years ago in the UK, had quite a lot of problems getting it registered in the Netherlands since there was an issue with the VIN. I solved that with a lot of help from a few forummembers and got my registration. After that i lost all interest in the car because of all the troubles i had with it and so i sold it to a friend of mine, who was froced to sell it againg to another friend. Last saturday we had quite a big carmeet in an old factory and that was the day the C210 was first shown to the rest of the world after its rebuild, from this: To this:

Am I right in remembering that only 205 square-lamp C210's sold in UK ? Thanks for the photos Eric. That looks to be very nicely modified.

Am I right in remembering that only 205 square-lamp C210's sold in UK ? Thanks for the photos Eric. That looks to be very nicely modified. Agreed about the white one, great work there! Well remembered on the figures Mark, Datsun UK import figures are 205 facelift and 2349 round headlight. For some reason they have a slightly different chassis number it would seem - KGC210 for the original, KMC210 facelift. The total of 2554 is fractionally down on 2725 for the C110.

ive only just noticed this interesting thread. why did they use the square rear lights ? also they have a datsun badge on the rear, heres mine so i removed the centre trim with datsun badge on, drilled out the 4 plastic pop rivets, and found it says skyline underneath it ! so they imported it as a skyline and just riveted a datsun badge trim over it !

the Japanese always seam to keep the best spec for there own market. they kept the Turbo version of this model to themselves. it was the first time a turbo was fitted to a skyline and i think any japanese production car?
i think the later UK lights look better then the earlier ones, a lot less fussy.
all export Datsuns are just rebadged Nissans. Nissan just used the Datsun name on there export cars untill the early 80's when they decided to drop the Datsun name.
Datsun was a company very early on in the early days of japanese car production but were brought out by Nissan. i think somewhen back in the 40's?
some say that they used the name Datsun as it sounded less japanese and would be easier to sell to the Americans. dunno how true this is!?

It's worth remembering that - in many cases - it was the UK concessionaire ( Octav Botnar and his crew ) which decided what models to import and what spec they would be. They had their own policies and often appeared to be avoiding direct competition with certain UK and European models in certain sectors. It's a pity. There was never a company called 'Datsun' in Japan. The company's early lineage and bloodline is slightly complicated, but basically the DNA is from Kaishinsha Jidosha Kojo ( note: NOT spelled K waishinsha as is often mis-reported ) in 1911, merging with Jitsuyo Jidosha Seizo and changing its name to D.A.T. Jidosha Seizo, then being absorbed by Nihon Sangyo ( via Tobata Imono ) to emerge as Nissan Jidosha KK in 1933/34. D.A.T. Jidosha Seizo made cars that were badged 'Datson' and then 'Datsun', but the companies that went on to make these 'Datsuns' were never called 'Datsun' themselves. All the cars that we tend to call 'Datsuns' these days were actually Nissan products. The Nissan name was not used initially for post-war exports as it was seen to be tainted by association with war materiel. Most of the trucks used by Japanese armed forces in the 1930s and early 1940s used the 'Nissan' name proudly on their radiator shells, and Nissan was involved in making quite a lot of other things - including the assembly of aero engines - for the Japanese war effort. The decision to use the 'Datsun' name was an effort to disassociate the 'Nissan' name from an export product. It has nothing to do with 'Nissan' sounding "too Japanese" and it has nothing to do with America specifically either; Nissan was exporting to many countries before it exported to the USA, and they tended to take a WORLD view on such matters. If you hear anything that specifically links such things to the USA, you can bet it was originally written from a somewhat narrow American viewpoint...
