I would ring GAZ shocks and ask them if these could be refurbed. They refurb normal shocks and this is similar.. Obviously much cheaper if someone has a used -new pair that they are willing to sell.
Retro fitting from other makes maybe an option. What about the s30, s13, s14 etc...can they do the job?

S13 maybe as a fastback but s14 has a boot with spring openers
Cheers

Good luck. If all fails let me know as My mate has a b310 facelift coupe that he is breaking and I am sure the tailgate on his car is Mint. Hopefully so are these struts. Glass and other bits are all salvageable from this car I reckon.

Well SGS called me back this afternoon and gave me a rough quote! First I send the gas struts to them Then they check everything over to see if the seals will take a re-gas If it is all ok it's between £8.50 and £10 per strut and they can add pressure to cope with additional spoilers etc, they need to know the weight of the spoiler for this. If it can't be re-gassed they will build up a new strut at about £18 per strut. Return postage is about £5.50. Pretty good prices I think

Leigh (Area rep) Well, they got back to me and said that they can't do them. They offered to remove (cut) the fittings from mine and fit them to a new set. Shock, horror!!! This would cost around £140-00 (inc. postage and VAT)
I've asked for them to be returned and I'll see if I can get similar length struts from a breakers and adapt them with the existing fittings. I should think this will be a lot cheaper, albeit more trouble.

New ones for sale in the States, mines were welded with new other Nissan struts, so the fitment parts are original, the strut is new age.

WTF??? I've been a bit delayed in getting mine sorted but I'm ready to post them off now! I phoned them last week for an up to date quote and I got the same £8.50 ish for a re-gas or £18-£20 for new ones to be made up! They said it wouldn't be any more than that!?!?

I might be right in saying that most, if not all, of our Datsuns do NOT have the pop-on ball-joint end fittings. Thus, the quote/estimate that you, I and others got are not correct. If your car has brackets welded/fitted onto the ends of the struts, then I wouldn't even bother sending them for evaluation as you will get the same response that I and others have had. If you look back, mine were going to cost £140-00. Rather strangely, though, since I got them back, they have worked better and actually hold the hatch up midway. Strange, huh?
