Just thought I'd introduce myself. I recently purchased a late-1975 120Y coupe (front disc brakes), white with dealer-add vinyl top and cassette player. 53k original miles. Spent its life until 2010 in the London area. Now it's in Seattle with me. My plan is to lower it, do some light suspension mods, and just polish it up for a while. I would like to join a group that knows this car well. In the U.S., I get caught between the 1200, B-210, and the unique (to the U.S., anyway) RHD set up. Hope to learn from you all and have a good time.
Two questions:
1. Is there a great resource I could use for finding parts in the U.K. who ship to the U.S.? 2. How do I post pics? (Tried to paste links to my images on Photobucket, but no luck).
Cheers!

Hope you bring it out to a few meets ,, there's quite a few of us Datsun guys semi local to you. Most of us are middle aged dorks so we are somewhat pleasant in person most of the time.. This would be a good site for learning specifics about your car as these guys know them better than most of us Ratheads.

YES! Same car. Wow, it's blowing my mind to see the history unfold a bit. Thank you!
In 2013, the serviceman sold it to a friend in Albuquerque. She drove it to Colorado Springs, but then had the need to sell. She owned it for only four months. I had it shipped to Seattle.
It needed a new exhaust, and the clutch is making noises. Otherwise, in great shape. One rust area of concern in lower engine bay on shock tower. I will lower it, beef up the sway bars, shock tower brace, and call it good for awhile.
(Looking for a clutch cable and boot).

I saved that car! I bought it from an old Irish lady in London who rear ended someone in it, when I saw the state of the brakes I could see why she had no hope of stopping the thing. Bad maintenance! She had owned it from new or nearly new. Here is a pic i took of the house, see that garage.. thats where this car spent its whole life until the accident. I had a battle with the insurance company because they wanted to take it away and squash it (write it off) they said theres no way any parts could still be found to repair it. I informed him i had a new radiator panel, grille etc. Battled through the red tape eventually. I really wanted to save this car as they are super rare, being an early model especially. (Vinyl seats, 12 inch wheels, blue carpet etc) I do have somewhere a pic of it when it was smashed, it IS NOT A PRETTY SIGHT! You probably do NOT want to see it. It was a hard hit. I got a professional bodyshop to pull it slightly as the leg on one side had come in and upwards. I even sent it back there once because I measured it and it still wansn't as accurate as i wanted it! Ok 2nd time. I fitted new rad panel, did rust repairs to the inner wing trumpets, and gave it a temporary paint job and sold it as a project to Scott who was on the US airbase in Suffolk, he had put a new front valance on it and had it resprayed, and quite some expense. He bought the appliance wheels for it. Some time later he took it back to the States with him. I had no idea he didn't still own it until I saw the car on EBAY a few weeks ago. I wouldn't go too crazy on the mods (or at least stuff that can't be undone ) as that is one rare car ANYWHERE in the world in that condition. The interior was pretty much immaculate due to the low mileage and that it always lived in a garage so no sun damage to anything. I've seen original low miles Datsuns such as the 620 pickup go for $10,000-15,000 US in the States. Did you get the steel wheels and hubcaps with it? Look after her!

Thank you so much for the extra history and pics, Datman. I'm keeping a folder with all the info I gather... Do you have any other paperwork, like from the repair or insurance companies? Would be great to build a book to follow her! And while you are correct that I probably DON'T want to see the smashed front end, I owe it to the car to collect as much info as I can. (But cheers for bracing me for the shock).
I've taken your advice and will not go crazy with mods. Just suspension: Lowering 2" all around, new rear shocks, bushings, sway bars, that's about it.
I rewired the cassette deck so both speakers work. Just wish I hadn't thrown away all my cassettes from my youth!
Do you remember what Scott paid for her? I paid $5100 US, plus another $1400 US for shipping, taxes, and licensing.
I did not get the steel wheels and hubcaps, unfortunately. I'd like to find Scott to fill in some gaps with regards to the history (and maybe he has the wheels)!
Looking after her!

Scott is on Facebook, i can ask him if he is okay with u contacting him if you like. Also I heard today from Gary, a friend of Scotts (that photo is taken outside Garys house) who has a bunch of photos of the respray which was done at a place Gary knows.
$1400 seems a lot to ship from NM to WA but still the car seems good value as its pretty unique and importing something like that from Japan would certainly cost more.
I believe Scott bought the car from me for equivalent $3000 but spent another equiv $4500 on it approximately.

The $1400 included shipping ($750), sales tax ($615), and a collector license plate ($55).
The person I bought it from is also contacting Scott, so how about we let that play out?
I'll PM you with my email address so Gary can send pictures, if he's willing. I am so excited to start its book!
Would you advise me to cut the front springs to lower it or buy a set of 280ZX springs (or??) so I can keep the original ones? I didn't think it would be a problem to cut the originals, but now I'm second guessing that decision.
