Do I need to do type approval, or does not apply to such an old car... Firstly, congrats on the purchase. That's looks like an excellent example you secured. As for registration it's very very easy 1. Insure the car using the chassis number . Most underwriters will allow you cover for 30 days on this basis 2. Drive it to MOT centre and get it tested. Again, they should give you the MOT using the chassis number. 3. If you go on the DVLA site, there is a form that you need to complete for used imported cars. The form is not available online or at post offices. Call DVLA and they will mail you the form. 4. Complete form, attach insurance cover note and MOT and send off with registration fee ( think its £80) 5. Sit back and wait. Log book and number plate notification will be in post 6. Enjoy the drive... Drop me a PM if you have any other queries. One gain, well done , hopefully we get a chance to see this on the show circuits in 2014

Thanks Datman, Its Passed its mot, no issues whatsoever. No rust, a few patches of filler here & there. Its imported from japan, first owner, may 72 to july 74 then 2nd upto september 2013. Drove it back from Southampton, brilliant engine. L20 with 5 speed manual. Cant wait for registration so I can drive it on the road again. Will get onto DVLA on Monday.

Will get onto DVLA on Monday. That's reassuring! ...new VOSA rules are enforcing MOT testers to refuse certificates for cars that have no amber turn signals at rear. Anyway moot point now. Has the car had a triple carb swap which tends to be very common on these models? Whereabouts in the country are you ? Bonus point is that it will be tax free ....ie road tax free.

Hi Datsfun, The car is very original, heres a pic of the engine bay.She fires up nicely, & always on first time, even from the docks after 8 weeks on the ship, she fired up straight away. I'm in East London....

well i'd guess the first thing that will be changed is getting rid of that rather large A/C unit?
what ever you do with it. it's just great we've got another one of these legendary cars here.
look forward to seeing this and really hope you bring it along to one of the shows we do next year.

well i'd guess the first thing that will be changed is getting rid of that rather large A/C unit? r. Are you serious ? That unit is factory option installed and period correct. Why would you want to get rid of patina like this ? If the owner is hoping to drop in a RB26 then maybe time to loose the period correct details. In fact some halo owners who don't have AC from factory pay good money to retro hit the factory Nissan unit.
