picked this up today, 400 mile round trip. had to drag it out of the garage with the van as the rear brakes had seized on due to being parked up for a long while with the handbrake on. few wacks with a hammer on the rear wheels freed it off once it was outside. loading it up ready for the trip home. doesn't look great. rear arches are obviously rusted out and bunged up with filler. door bottoms are a bit rough, rear quaters are holey. all around the sunroof is rusted out, few other iffy bits on the roof. other sills have been covered up with normal repair type sills front footwells have been plated. boot is holey, bonnet has some dents. but. chassis looks good ;D

Seems worth saving then. What are the plans?

first thing i wanted to do with it is get it running so had a quick look over it today. there's no oil on the dipstick and no water in the rad so gotta address that. also i didn't like the aftermarket wiring that had been done. some of it had melted already so i've started removing all that and i'll start again. had a electric kenlowe fan fitted plus optical electronic ignition. both of these will be going in the bin ;D also has a very cool ( imo ) electric window conversion that i will try and keep. just need to run some new wiring to it. i'm making a list of parts needed. gonna be quite long....... as for future plans. i'm not sure was thinking just MOT it and convert to 5 speed manual and sell it on. but it is pretty cool. so may keep it for a while and in that case i'll do a lot more to it, including fixing the roof properly, which, depending on what look i go for, will be either fitting a larger foldback type sunroof or welding it up and trying to get it straight and painted.

well i gave it a wash, as it's much nicer to work on a clean car and it gave me an easy job to ease myself into it. the engine bay was the worst bit due to a leaking cam cover gasket. so busted out the engine degreaser and brushed that all over then whet at it with the jet wash. then went crazy and got out the wash n wax and did the whole outside too only got one pic and thats not great due to it getting cloudy again.... well at least you get to see the other side ;D another job i've done is get the window wound up. was wound down when i picked it up and as it's got electric windows (yes really) which don't work, i had to figure something out.... so pics of the aftermarket lecy windows got one of these on each door. poped the cover off to find this... so i just ran a couple of wire from the battery straight to the motor to get it to wind itself up. job done.

Pretty cool find Al, you dont see these 2 doors very often, pretty sure you can make something nice out of it.

I’ve always liked the coupes too, saw one somewhere about 1988 and it stuck with me ever since. Something very nice about the roofline. Good luck with it! Closest I’ve got was spending a couple of mornings salvaging a 5-speed ‘box from this rusty, originally silver example in a Norfolk scrapyard back in 1997. 1980 Datsun Bluebird SSS Coupe by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr
