B310 Adjustable Top Mounts / Camber Plates?! (Read 545 times)

I'm just about to buy some adjustable top mounts to try and finish off the suspension setup on my B310 coupe (delayed by house costs and job changes).

When I was last looking, it looked like an S13 one was ideal. Just wondering if there has been any other options or if this is still the best one to get?

I believe it gets fitted the reverse ways round or something?

My current unfinished setup is:

280zx front struts and brakes
Honda civic coilover conversion
I have some uprated mk2 golf inserts I want to try and make work.

I think it's just top mounts and RCAs I need now?!

i've got S13 adjustable top mount (yes they go on 180* out) and mk1 golf inserts in cut down S130 struts on my Laurel. you need a thick washer inbetween the top mount and spring top cup or else the top cup will smash into the top mount.

don't bin the B310 top mounts. they'd be usefull to lower some of the other models.

they all kinda look the same. cept mine are red... but them ones don't show a picture of the nut and lower stepped insert that go on the threaded part of the damper.

to be honest though. you really need to sort out the parts you've got already before worrying about camber plates. for instance, the coil over kit you've fitted is not suitable. i bought the same one to try out as it was cheap, but the springs that are included are far to stiff to use. they must be around 500lb... plus the included spring top cups are rubber... they will just fall apart unless they are supported by the stock top spring cup above them.

I'm trying to get all the parts together! I need more camber to fit my wide wheels ;-) and need to modify the arches around this so I do have to get these now so I can finish the bodywork.
I haven't driven the car yet but was thinking how stiff the springs are! I was going to adjust spring rates to suit!

At the moment the plastic spring cups are supported buy the standard bearing but wanted to get something made up when I got the camber plates.... So I still need this to work this bit out!

The kit was still worth it just for the threaded parts if nothing else.

Where is the best place to get different coilover springs and what would be the best size/weight?

because that kit uses 2 1/2" springs rather then 2 1/4 it's not easy.... i found one pair of springs secondhand so bought them. but i did manage to use a 2 1/4" spring on the other pair. i just flipped both the adjustable rings upside down, downside is the spring rattles against the threaded part, but that way i could also use a 2 1/4" alloy top cup to replace the rubber ones.

for a heavy slammed lightweight car i'd go 200lb front and 150lb rear. that should be stiff enough so limit suspension movement so as not to rub, but still give some give. you could go stiffer if your clearances are really small.

fwiw i've got 250lb front and 225lb rear on my N13... that is hard but because i sometimes carry weight in it i need it stiff.

I'm guessing just lower the poundage but keep the same spring length?

i couldn't really comment on the spring length without being with the car. but if you've got standard length struts? then i'd guess you'd need around 9inch springs. maybe could get away with 8"?

also need to make sure you build them in such a way that they relocate properly and easily when the weight comes off the car.

Yea I've got standard length 280zx struts at the mo but trying to gain as much travel as I can by minimising depth of the upper spring cup and top mount, hence wanting the slim adjustable top mounts! Need to play around with the VW inserts as well as they are uprated so should prevent it bottoming out so easily!

as you can see. you can't add that much negative camber because they're wrong way around. could add a load of positive though!

Hmmmmm has anyone modded this setup to get "mega camberzzz?" ;-).

I've heard of some people fitting the unit the other way round and redrilling holes?!?! Can't see how that can be done really

get your own mounting plate made up.....?
