My god, if only I was closer I would love to have come over and got it going!
I would start by removing the petrol feed to the carburetor and have someone turn the engine over a couple of times just 2 seconds say, and just check there is petrol pumping out (might want to catch it in a bowl).
Did the AA man check that ALL the plugs were sparking? It may sound daft but since the mid 80's nearly all cars went over to fuel injection and I wonder if a carb. is an unknown quantity to the AA patrols? If fuel and sparks are good, then I still reckon it could be the choke. Keep us posted.
Yeah petrol coming out. I even tried putting petrol in the carbretter. Still never started. I took it from birmingham to London. Brought it back. A few days later when car wash got it washed. Nd parked it back up. After that it never wanted to start. So then I changed the fuel filter and spark plugs still no luck. Since then It sitting in my drive way. It's absolutely mint out side and inside. And engine only covered 67000 miles since new. I have got full history and all previous mots with car. But I can't see a receipt for the timing belt. Can it be the timing belt. The car wants to start but doesn't start. Fire up okay but no start. I have a feeling it could be the choke but I don't know how to check it.
Great news finally started. It was the timing was out a bit. I took it to get a new starter motor the guy who was putting in the starter motor had a few bluebirds years ago so he knew quite a bit and he took of the spark plugs leads nd put them in the original order and also corrected the timing on it. So know it starts first time.
