Hello, my name's Chris and I'm considering the purchase of a 78 Datsun 120y. I might be asking advice from some of you soon. Thanks

Hi, Chris. Welcome. A very popular car. If you need any help/advice for the purchase, please ask. Lots of members have or have had these, me included. Try to fill out your profile for the site; it'll give people an idea of where you live as well.

Hi thanks for the welcome. What sort of price would a genuine low mileage 120y go for to give me an idea of budget?

Well now, that is the question. I sold my 74K miles 1978 120Y 4-door in Good Condition about 2 1/2 years ago for £2000. They pop up on Fleabay regularly with all sorts of claims about low mileage/stunning condition etc from dealers for around £3-4000. BUT you really need to check the car's body-work thoroughly (particularly the front inner wings - often called trumpets) as the rain water drains along them and they are well known rot areas. Front wings are hard to come by,as well. Trailing edge of rear wheel arches tend to go, but this isn't a big issue. Service items are well catered for. Other members reading this will probably add some other advice.
Good luck with the hunt.

I've just paid £1000 for my 120Y and think I done really well. It has all the bits, plus I have another full car for spares, Saying that, once I have restored it, I'd like to think it was worth around £5,000 or £6,000
