Hi all,
Need a little help, been test driving my Datsun 100a F11, had a couple runs and saw it was overheating way too quickly so while parked in the garage I've replaced the thermosat, thermoswitch and water pump.
But when I go to start the engine its just turning over. I noticed my cheap plastic fuel filter is empty. Any reason this could have happened???
Sorry if my explanation is terrible i'm not mechanically minded and this Datsun is my project car to teach myself.

Just seen this. Start with "simples" and check the tank has petrol in it still. A leak can empty it out below the pick-up point. You can't always rely on a fuel guage so top it up (I know this...) and check to see if there is a leak.
Then... I'd check the filter to ensure that fuel can flow through it. It can be directional.
Then...I'd disconnect the fuel line and connect a jar of fuel to the fuel pump to see if the pump is still working. Replacing this is quite cheap as well. Not sure about your model but sometimes there is a spacer under a mechanical fuel pump mounting and if you have purchased a pattern pump it could be that the spacer is slighly thicker than the original and the cam/plunger system doesn't work properly (had this with a Ford Escort).
Then... the fuel line needs a blow through to see if it's blocked.
Anyway, you've probably sorted it now. Let us all know as this is how we learn.
