The badges on the rear wings of my N10 Cherry have begun to crumble away and are beyond repair. I've seen an occasional used badge for sale but they are overpriced and not a lot better than what I already have. So I have contacted a company that can make pretty much any badge that you want out of any material and fitting. They have responded to say that they can make the badges but the minimum number they would produce would be 10 (I only need 2) and the cost per design is £450
I'm not going to spend that much on badges...but if there are enough Datsun Cherry owners that would want new badges (another 4 people would make the minimum number) then perhaps it would be worthwhile as the individual unit cost would come down considerably.
Is this anything that would interest other Cherry owners? Or does anyone have any good advice on how to obtain suitable replacement badges?
Failing this I may resort to de-badging the wings when I do some remedial bodywork repairs in the summer.
Anyway...Happy New Year to everyone...hope 2020 has a few dry days to make best use of these old classics.

Hi, Chris. Not sure if they are all the same but post up a pic to give us a clue. These turn up at autojumble at classic car shows so have a look there. I'll keep my eyes open.

Hi Leigh,
I am unable to attach an image. Even when I resize one to just 135kb the website wont let me and states that the thread has exceeded maximum size.
Thank you for your help. I will also keep my eyes open but have not had any luck so far. The only ones I have seen are very worn.

Looking at ebay I can see that there are a number of sellers offering individual chrome letters with adhesive backing. They are inexpensive and I'm considering having a go at making my own badges as the originals are now literally crumbling and falling off.

What kind of badges exactly are you planning? There are several options depending on year model and engine size:

Hi...and thanks for the reply.
Wow! I didn't know there were so many options. The badges I need to replace go on the rear quarter panels and say DATSUN CHERRY just like the 3rd one down in the middle column.

I was going to try and make my own badges but the companies that produce the lettering I found are located in China and understandably are not able to function normally whilst the corona-virus is prevalent. In the meantime another very nice Datsun owner has suggested he has some badges...so I will try and obtain the correct ones first.

I bought a couple of badges from ebay (thanks for the link). They were well used and in need of restoration but considerably batter than the ones on my car that had begun to crumble into dust. I renovated them by firstly lightly sanding the front face of the letters that had been painted (one badge in silver, the other in red and then white). Once this was done I sprayed the whole thing with gloss black 3 times and allowed to dry. Then carefully painted the lettering in silver with a brush. The next day did the same again to cover any parts that had been missed. Finally a coat of clear lacquer and they were ready to fit to the car. I used a very small amount of mastic over the DA of the word Datsun as for some reason there is no fitting at this end of the badge and as they become old and weak they tend to start coming away and are prone to being caught by a polishing rag. They look much better.
Thanks for all your help.

A small restoration but doesn't it make you feel good when you finish?

It certainly does. I will see the full benefit when lockdown is over and I can get the bottom half of the car resprayed to cover all the repairs I have made to the door bottoms, wing bottoms and front valance during the free time. Can't wait to be able to use the car again.
