something i've just started to get into.
1/12 and 1/10 scale oval racing. these are Mardave V12 chassis cars which use 2mm thick ABS plastic bodyshells.
there are various classes, from the very simple ministock formula to the F1 Brisca drift onto the saloon stox racers. with full contact bangers somewhere in the middle.
there's loads of clubs around the country, i've got around 5 within an hour drive of me.
here's a couple of vids including incar footage

Most of ours have been put up to make space in garage for oldest 2 sons beaters to fit in garage but they are pretty outdated anyway. This is my oldest boys current RC,, TMaxx 2.5 nitro fuel powered with 56 truck body he painted to match my ole 55 road bomb. Have you guys got those rock crawler vehicles ?? Those are a kick! My buddies have been moving to them in the last few years as they don't require fast reflexes or good eyesight.. Both of which most of us have lost years ago.

I race RC bangers with my son at Basildon (BMBSCC) and Chelmsford (CCORC). Started in 2007. Cheap and Good fun, but can frustrating and surprisingly competitive. Good choice of body shells available including a few Datsuns and Nissans. Laurel, 260c, 240z, 300c estate, Almera, Sunny, Bluebird saloon, hatch and estate are all made by Kamtec. Might see you at some race meetings.

These look cool. What's a typical all up and running, ready to go price (excluding paint)?

if you buy everything new including batteries, charger, modern 2.4ghz radio gear then £150-200. all depends what spec.
because they are for competition racing there are rules on what is allowed. mechanical speed controllers only, there's a standard control motor and all are four cell NiMH or NiCd batteries.
for a faily high spec set up...
£118 gets you a new "Large IT" ready to run rolling chassis with servos and motor. these are custom built with uprated parts.
£40 gets a 2.4ghz Etronix transmitter and reciever.
£20 Imax digital charger that can charge anything from NiCd to LiPo batteries
£20 NiMH battery for the car
£10 Batteries for transmitter
£6 body shell
good thing is the parts that break during racing are very cheap.
front suspension arms £1.85 pair, king pins £1, full set of wheels with tyres glued and trued £15.
i sold the granada with charger and transmitter very quickly for £100 and will put the escort up for about the same.

here's my 1/10 scale Brisca drift car i'm building. these are a 4wd 1/10 scale tub chassis with a restriction on motor and all running solid plastic tyres to keep them matched. racing on a carpet oval track, same as the bangers. mines built on a Tamiya TT-01 chassis. here's some pictures of the 1/12 banger chassis. loads of different wheels availible. these look pretty cool i think.

i took a couple of cars racing on sunday. a Cadillac banger and my Brisca drift. dam the drift was hard work... solid plastic tyres on smooth carpet. looks and feels great when you get it right but very frustrating when you keep getting it wrong... uggh anyways the banger... started off looking like this but after some good crashing

manic yes. there's a transponder fitted onto each car. the whole thing is run off a PC program which is linked to external monitors and loud speakers which lets you know what heat is coming up and race count down etc. once all racers are entered and it's started then you just let it all run on auto and get on with racing and fixing between rounds. i'm racing this sunday. under 1600 non ford. so i'm brings a Bluey hatch along for that started off cutting out the windows and arches. then added plates to door and bonnet, also the sunstrip/nameplate. once done i painted it up and fitted to the chassis sorry bout the poor quaility pics. my phone flash doesn't work too well on close up shots

330 cederic looks good. my bluey didn't last too well today and i failed to finish a couple races due to losing battery conector. oh and i've now sorted myself out with a proper race number, rather then just using random ones.
