Thats a very good question. My L18 of same sort of era runs best on 15w-40 mineral. Word on street is that 10w-40 or 15w-40 is about right. However the book says 20w-50 grade - but then that was indeed what we all used as it was about all we could easily get in the 70's & 80's. An "expert" (whom I trust and who is responsible for care of many old cars) was adamant recently I should be using 20w-50 eg Comma oil. Make sure you use a pukka oil filter - start off with Nissan - you can probably get them still from your dealer or else from Will. Ed

i'd use 15-40. but just as important is that it's a good brand. don't use supermarket own brand! i tried it and made one of my old cars smoke horribly till i drained it out and put decent stuff in.
modern oils are designed much better then they used to be, so run a little thinner, safely. this means less friction in the engine giving better power and economy. although you are unlikely to notice...

Hi
I will soon be servicing my Cherry and would like to find out if anyone would trust buying an oil filter from Blue Print?
Can anyone please suggest where to buy a proper oil filter from. Thanks

You could always get a real one from your Nissan dealer - or from Will. But I am sure Blue Print should be fine - or Mann. Aftermarket options are reducing for some of us since sad demise of Unipart - I was a fan of the branch in Newcastle on Tyne as one chap there was so helpful. Ed
