Not much joy for motorists asides from the fact that if you own a classic car that's been manufactured (not just registered as stated in some papers) 40 years ago, then you can apply for zero road tax. This makes sense, as the majority of classic cars don't see the whole year on the road, and most will cover minimal miles. Loads of newspapers have reported it but this has the clearest account: classics.honestjohn.co.uk/news/general-news/2014-03/classic-car-road-tax-exemption-now-rolling-at-40-years/So at the moment, if you can prove your car was built prior to the 1st of January 1974 (L or M reg) then you're eligible. The government have stated it will be rolling but as you know they can change their minds on a whim. Spottedlaurel on this forum can help you find out your build date if you have a 1974 registered car. For the rest of us, we'll have to wait a while but the theory is by 2023 all Datsuns will be tax exempt! I expect people will know the old style of Suffix plate identifiers but I guess there's no harm in placing this here too: Jan '63 to Dec '63 A Jan '64 to Dec '64 B Jan '65 to Dec '65 C Jan '66 to Dec '66 D Jan '67 to July '67 E Aug '67 to July '68 F Aug '68 to July '69 G Aug '69 to July '70 H Aug '70 to July '71 J Aug '71 to July '72 K Aug '72 to July '73 L Aug '73 to July '74 M Aug '74 to July '75 N Aug '75 to July '76 P Aug '76 to July '77 R Aug '77 to July '78 S Aug '78 to July '79 T Aug '79 to July '80 V Aug '80 to July '81 W Aug '81 to July '82 X Aug '82 to July '83 Y A Aug '83 to July '84 B Aug '84 to July '85

It's a good thing... But doubt I'll have my Datsun's by 2021 to get the benefit. It's an incentive though!

That's excellent news. I hadn't expected it to be rolling. Nigel is getting me dating letter for the 710 because it was registered in early February 1974 and the glass is dated to 1973. Allowing for shipping and sitting in compounds etc it's obvious the build date was 1973.
