I think SR in a retro Datsun would be cool no one's gonna argue with that! nothing wrong with the CA in my opinion. just like any old turbo motor, before you start tuning it, make sure it's in good health and kept serviced.

Al has hit he nail on the head. Most CA's changing hands now have had a hard life and questionable service history, hence they tend to more fragile when compared to SR's. Same situation with the ET and DET CA engines..

I would say now that SR20's are now as unreliable as the CA's on the basis that they are cheap and a lot of them are having the hell ragged out of them. The SR20 in my daily 910 has it's big ends go for example.

so..... now the old CA turbo lump has been removed i've been sorting out a replacement engine. finally decided that the best option for me and the car would be to stick a straight six back in it. so i ended up thing that a 2.4 L series from a later laurel would be a good idea. so same size as the original lump, but with fuel injection and lighter internals should mean better MPG and a little bit more power over stock. i made a deal with Dreadnought for the engine and box out of his crashed C32 and made the trip down to him to pick it up..... seeing as how i don't own an estate, a van or anything suitable to collect a big engine and gearbox in i took the sunny hatch... prepped the car for van duites by removing a load of the interior and laying down some sheets here's the sunny in good company loaded up and here it is back at home. thanks to Dreadnought for the parts, plus the tea n biscuits and to Max for the loan of the sunny van...

Cool I agree mind, the same issue with RBs... Too many track days/drift days and not enough servicing on the fast engines If you check out my project thread the first thing I did was a full service to my RB, it was scary the colour of the oil! I would love a classic Datsun with a CA/SR tho just need to get saving lol

Aha, off that silver one Will has I presume?
Is there evidence of accident damage in JDX? It seemed as if it had had some bodywork before I got it.

Aha, off that silver one Will has I presume? yes. i'm having some interior bits too. shame the bonnet is bent and the boot on that one is dented too, or i'd have had them. i've got a new pair of front wings that will need to be painted. Is there evidence of accident damage in JDX? It seemed as if it had had some bodywork before I got it. the only repair work it has had, is that the left doors and rear quarter and both front wings have been resprayed, iirc. few dents but no crash repairs and not had much rust/welding repairs either.
