Actually it might be happening as of 1st of april 2014
Seems like it might be a tester for a 40 year rolling tax exemption.
And sorn will no longer need to be done annually this april

how bloodly pointless. guess one of the toffs in goverment has just bought a 1973 car and has been complaining about paying road tax on it.
what they should be doing is taxing on milage! grrr

Should certainly start including a few more of our cars, by 1973 (and cars registered early 1974, which is where I come in with the buld date certificates) we get into the big sellers like 120Y.

Why is it pointless....surely if they have moved deadline by 12 months then maybe next year it's pre 75 and then it becomes a rolling deadline? Taxing on mileage? How...

My cherry was registered march '75. I wonder if there's any chance it was over a year old when my uncle bought it? Seems an odd decision to shift it by just one year.

How... i've mentioned about this before. datsunclubuk.proboards.com/thread/1442/tax-exempthaving road tax based on the cars age is unfair. it should be based on road usage. that way, if you only used your car say once a week going to shops or whatever, then you shouldn't have to pay as much as someone who drives alot. if the duty is paid on fuel, then if you do low miles, then you'd be paying less road tax. if you drive high mileages and thus use more fuel then you pay more. you could also have a claim to get back some fuel duty on traveling to work. i belive the tax disc itself should be binned totally. instead you should maybe have a MOT disc and maybe an insurace disc in the window. doesn't that just make more sence?

This would be great news if true,I have a vw thats is 4 weeks too young to qualify!! In N.Ireland we have to display an MOT disc in the window along with road tax and in rep of ireland they have to display tax,mot and insurance although their mot ( nct ) is every 2 years.
