Hi everyone. I decided to join the forum as I'm looking for my next project.
My current daily drive is my R33 Gtst. I love the skyline but 16mpg is starting to hit home and I'm considering a classic Datsun as a daily drive that's not a soul destroying euro-hatch (the r33 will be kept along with my s14)
I know very little about datsuns/early nissans but I'm looking at the 70s era I think. Things of beauty!
Any thoughts will be welcome, for now I just wanted to say hi!

hiya. all of them are gonna be good usable cars, choice depends on what you want and expect from it. i you don't mind a basic but ecomincal car look at the cherries and sunnys. bit more comfort look at the violets and bluebirds. bigger ones are not goon be that great on fuel.

Thanks I won't be after anything massive, just practical. Ill be looking for something with cool factor as well. I realise a classic can be an "experience" to live with daily, but I've had 2 classic minis and know little things can bring the reliability and refinement up without ruining the looks or charm Does the site have a buyers guide? I assume rust is the big issue? No doubt ill have more questions after some more reaserch! As for pickups - I wouldn't mind one actually, it would be different! But I'm looking bargain basement for a project, I doubt a fresh import will be in my price range

to be honest, the biggest Datsun Bargin is spending a couple of grand plus and buying a really good example, rather then spending a very small purchase price and then spending a load more money and time getting it nice.

I can see what you mean, but In general I kind of disagree. I think if I can get a complete car (or nearly so) I'd have a good project. I'm only 25 but I have all the equipment I need at home - engine hoist, welder, 5ft by 3foot snap on box crammed with tools etc. I bought my skyline as a £50 shell, it had a re-spray and was rust free. I stripped it back to nothing and built it up one bolt and wire at a time and I know it'll last forever after all the rust proofing I did (I Love POR15). Total spend is still under £1500 and it has full japspeed suspension, diayama coilovers, 33 GTR brembo calipers, Goodridge lines, brake stopper. Blitz Nur-Spec exhaust, japspeed de-car, Cusco downpipe, japspeed elbow, blitz air filter, Bee*R power builder, Jegs line lock... I could go on lol Lots of tasty bits. And a JUN bodykit - oh and it's bayside blue. For sub £1500 (most of that was the donor car) it proves you can build a great car without the spend. Sure it's hard work but I love building cars I've done one off engine swaps before and keep a s14 on the drift track using a budget of tea bags and tie wraps lol So I'm no stranger to doing things cheap On another note. How do people on this forum reapond to modification? I realise with classics there are lots of purists. But I've seen so many really well modified datsuns on speedhunters in Japan - I'd love to bring that to the UK

haha. we're all looking for something like that! i'm interested to here more on the r33 build and how you managed to get all the parts and assemble and paint in that budget. guessing you bought another complete car and stripped and sold parts off to get some cost back?

More or less, Ill copy my project thread over here from skyline owners when I get on a PC (on my phone so far) I bought what turned out to be the donor car for £1050. It was just like the above car. A one in a several year find! I waited 18 months for the right r33 Sadly something wasnt "right" with it. And coming onto a dual carriageway the rear subframe mounts snapped causing a bump. Bought the bayside blue shell with the body kit on it. It was cheap as the privious owner had made it a "non rolling shell" lol with no interior. So it was ALLOT of work. But I like work Took my suspension down and spent hours bolting it to the new shell in the rain and hauled it onto a wrecker truck... Spent £100 ish getting it home in fuel and macdonalds lol the rest of the budget went on some new ARB drop links (oem ones died in the crash) and lots of rust proofing stuff Done it all with hard work and sweat bloody good fun!
