Nearly came a cropper the other day when Mr Whippy decided to test my brakes by pulling out on me from a side turning. The A10 pulled up strongly with just a little bit of lock-up but I did notice that the front end dipped viciously and then yawed a little left and right before stopping.
I put the left and right movement down to the play in the steering wheel/steering box. I have recreated, safely, the same emergency stop to see if the shock absorbers settle the car correctly and they appear to do this with just the one-and-a-bit bounce. Could this be a spring thing or is this dipping just what to expect from our older cars?
I have very good Michelins on all four wheels.
On the rear of the Ice Cream Van is the logo.... Stop Me And Buy One..... I nearly bought the lot!

there's plenty of parts that wear out and will make the car dart about under heavy braking.
i'd start with replacement tension rod bushes (can upgrade to poly if you like) and also the steering arm idler bushes (There is a nylon upgrade for this)

oh. and you might need to adjust up the rear brakes. they should self adjust but that rarely works well.

I need to look into this, so thanks for the info. I'll adjust the rear brakes first. I've often wondered about polybushing but how do you specify the bits you need? Do you need to give the supplier measurements or do you just state the make and model of your car?
