Mine snapped on the way home last night (should have replaced it ages ago as I saw it looked shagged when I changed the alternator!) Was only 5 miles from home and have a decent battery, so got there OK.
Went straight on eGay last night and found one, but the seller has messaged me to say there are 2 listed for my model - 875mm or 1125mm long - does anybody know off the top of their head if the difference is due to aircon? I can't rememeber which belt does what without looking.
I can't check the car until 10pm and I'd like to mail him back today so fingers crossed :-)
With the belt snapped, a couple of wierd things happened - the engine tried to idle at 2200rpm, and the temperature gauge shot up to half - it usually sits around a quarter - any ideas on why? I am guessing iffy wiring, but not sure where/why? I have already redone a bit of the loom that was playing up due to faulty plugs

After some constructive googling (including looking at the engine pics on my own thread!)I think there are 3 drive belts - alternator, power steering, aircon. I reckon the PAS belt is the long 1125mm jobbie, as the pump is at the top of the engine and it has a seperate tensioner, so I am guessing 875mm is right for the alternator - maybe also the same for the aircon as it mounts pretty much the same on the opposite side.
FIngers crossed again...

The old belt (if you still have it) will have the size written /stamped on it. And belts are pretty generic so should be readily available from decent auto factors (Andrew Page, Unipart etc). Go on - prove me wrong!. Chalk this one to a life experience - you admit the belt was raggy when you did the alternator but didnt then get a new belt! Car could have overheated and cost you lots, as well as stranding you. If the car has indeed run hot, its worth checking the coolant level and maybe changing the oil - but thats me and my 1980's anorak. Good luck Ed

The temperature gauge went straight up, like pretty much instantly when the battery warning light came on though... I know the water temp will go up a without the pump, but it shouldn't just shoot straight up, or start muckng about with the idle speed!
Belt snapped at 70mph and is somewhere on the A45, so I won't be able to look at it :-)
