Hi y'all, I came across this forum and decided to sign up. I am hoping I could get a bit of help. I am looking for some pictures of a nissan Serena 1600 gearbox, in particular the bellhousing. In my neck of the woods we never got the Serena. But we did get sentra's with both the ga16de and the sr20. I know that I could design an adapter plate to suit the stock A-series transmission to bolt to the ga16de, however I would like to see if buying the bell would be a worth while option, saving time and money building the plate and such or if I should continue as planned. I do know the 1.6 Serena uses a "c" series transmission, and that it Could be adapted to a b or c trans, or even a 620 5 speed box. If anyone has a recomendation for a wrecking yard that would be great too. Thanks in advance.

hiya. be a good idea to let us know where your neck of the woods is also what are you trying to do? i couldn't work out what your trying to fit? if you want to fit an SR engine then as long as it's a RWD one (the FWD engines had different bellhousing configuration for some strange reason?) then you can use a gearbox from a SR powered Silvia. obviously a CA engine can use a CA Silvia gearbox. GA and E series bellhousing are the same and will bolt up to an A series gearbox with some work. some holes don't line up. but i doubt the A series gearbox will last long.... some great info in the datsun1200 wiki. datsun1200.com/modules/mediawiki/index.php?title=Bellhousing

So after re-reading my post I saw I was thinking out loud. My goal is to fit a ga16de engine into the 1200. The nissan ga16de came mounted rwd "north to south" in a nissan Serena. I am contemplating buying the bellhousing. I live in in California, so I would need to have this shipped from the uk. I understand I can build an adapter plate, my concern is the starter location. As it may interfere with the motor mount.
I have only found 2 pictures on the net of a Serena transmission, and can't confirm which one is a ga16 or which one is a sr.
*edit thanks for the info and link. Are the nissan Serena gearboxes plentiful?

i'm not sure the GA engined one would be easy to find. but that'd be neat if you could use a GA engine with a GA serena bellhousing onto a Silvia gearbox and fit into a lightweight rear wheel drive old datsun. should make for a very tough, reliable and economical package.
if i was doing it over here, i'd opt for the GA14DE with the injection as it's a cracking engine in the front wheel drive N14 and would also stay in the UK's lower tax band. i guess that's not a concern in the USA though?

To answer your question we don't have a tax like that, with these older car we are expempt from the emissions test, however give the law a reason for him to check under the hood and it could be a pain trying to make the swap legal. I've looked up a wrecker on eBay selling the ga transmission, but he has yet to respond when I asked questions. I'm thinking I may call. Does the ga14 have the vtc on it?

vtc? is that variable cam timing? if so our 1991-95ish GA14DE engines do not, as far as i'm aware.

Not seen a GA in a Serena, only a SR20. I looked at using one in a car but because the Serena is kind of mid-engined (engine under the seats) the intake is a funny wide flat shape, and the gearbox has cable operation, no gearstick coming out of it. Therefore , unless installing in some kind of van, probably best forgetting the entire idea!

Will. if you read through what he wanted to bolt together, then you'll see he's on about using just the engine and bell housing from a GA engined serena not the gearbox.

I thought h is trying to compare cost of bellhousing rather than a plate, the chances of buying just a bellhousing is pretty slim isn't it?

you said about sorting out a shifter, which he wouldn't need to do if he bolted the GA engined Serena bellhousing to a S13 or similar gearbox.
if this combination of parts does work, it's certainly something i'd love to have in a small RWD Nissan
