have we got basic specs for all of them?
for one, i can see that the escort only has a four speed box... let alone a more basic suspension arrangement

Same would be true for the Capri.

yes. i'm not sure when the capri 1600 went 5 speed. would guess around 1985?
what about the others? i'd guess all the Japanese cars are 5 speed? what sort of spec? trim levels?
should have the MK1 Vauxhall Astra 1600SR and VW MK1 golf 1600 GTI on there as well. though maybe the Golf 1500 GX would be a better comparison?

Also Talbot Sunbeam Ti and Cavalier Sportshatch, perhaps also BMW 316 (though predictably that would have been a lot more expensive!).

I see a lot of magazines for sale that do road tests on Datsuns and compare them to their contemporaries. If I can find the A10 sss, I might be tempted to buy one and see how it stood up.

I'll have the road test in my collection, I'll try and scan in the comparison page.

OK, so this comparison is from 1978 and not 1980 (as the prices I quoted above) but interesting it includes the Accord 3dr which started off this discussion: IMG_0053 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Notice how much the price rose in two years, £3147 to £4269!

appalling ride and vague steering on the A10. hmmm. i thought mine drove nice and that was very tired....
also the comment on the overall finish being plasticity/tinny. i thought it was pretty good. guess i need to check out it's rivals.

i would say the fords had bad interiors, even the Granadas had horrible grey plastic dashboards that looked like they were taken straight from a base model Fiesta
