Hi i fired up the SSS today after the second or third time it started great i thought!!! left it running for 10 mins or more then drove it, got some fuel then drove it about 7 miles it was running ok this is where the problem started...
I stopped at the supermarket was no more than 10 minutes in there came out and it wouldn't start i left it a while tried it again nothing so i'd had this problem before as it sounded as if the battery was flat and was told it could be the starter motor, so i gave it a tap or two and it fired up.
It would tick over but the revs wouldn't pick up then it would die on me, i called the recovery out he had a look at it and wasn't sure either in the end he took out the air filter and it fired up and ran beautifully enough for me to get home and put it back in the garage.
why would that of made a difference taking out the filter??? Any advice would be grateful please as i'm at my wits end as i would really like the Datsun running smoothly and not have to worry about if i'm out in it will it start again!!!
Cheers Ali

hiya. very unlikely the air filter made any difference. i'd guess that the problem is ignition related, maybe points need cleaning or adjusting, or poss a problem with the condenser. be aware that new, non Nissan parts can be very poor quality and give trouble even when new. also worth having a look to see if your car has split fuel pipes. check out this thread for more info datsunclubuk.proboards.com/thread/1571/leaking-sss-carbs.

Hi
I did notice there was a smell of petrol in the boot at japfest so it could be that, so that's something else that will have to be added to the ever growing list that needs doing to the Datsun.
