Mine is fine one minute and then stutters and seems to run on 3 cylinders also has a problem starting. I changed the plugs and points today and it was no different. So I popped the air filter cover off to check the filter and it was fine, so I lifted off the air filter housing and disconnected the vacuum pipe going to the bi metallic valve and the revs returned to normal and stayed there. So i'm guessing it has a faulty valve??

(hot air is less dense so needs more air or less fuel) if your car runs better with it disconnected, then it's most likely over fueling and needs mixture resetting. or the choke turning off.

Thanks Al The choke machanism was binding and not working properly probably due to over cleaning. Now it's free and working fine with a drop or two of 2 in 1. It looks like the mixture has been tampered with at some point as pointed out to me by Datman yesterday and the plugs looked rich when I changed them today so I guess I will put it on the mixture tester tomorrow, see what I'm getting. That and the fact that it started without choke means you are more than likely spot on. Let you know how I get on.

Also I need a new front exhaust pipe as the front box has gone so probably need to sort that first to get an accurate reading.
Any idea where I can source a new front section for a 1980 140Y coupe? Cheers

Dat man cleaned me out, it was OK when I was there anyhow. Must have been during the extra 300 miles back from his gaff that it went. Local factors are pretty good in fairness, although I just checked in the Bosal online catalogue and the car wasn't listed. Maybe stainless straight through would be the answer to go with my new Wolfrace wheels

I personally wouldn't go for a loud exhaust given the engines bhp.

For a basic system, around £225-300 depending on your location, quality and complexity of the exhaust.

Thanks for that, funnily enough I just had an e mail back from Longlife exhausts quoting me a system for £280. Shame I just ordered a new section from the motor factors . Maybe it won't arrive and I can go stainless
