right... lets do this properly then. got a call about an old 1200 that had been sat up a long while. had been dry stored and was complete and running and tow able. i knew it was a two door but not much else. so, dispite it being over 3hours drive away i set off to go collect check it out. when i got there i found out it was in fact a coupe so i was quite excited, till i saw the rust, filler and crappy repairs. dispite the roughness, all the suspension, steering, and chassis looked ok and in good enough shape to tow. it gave no isses driving back, dispite my truck being a lot slower with it hung off the back.

so. i stuck it up for sale in the hope that someone else would restore it, but dispite getting a lot of interest and plenty of people offering to buy it at my asking price, i decided i'd like to do it up myself and potentially use it to show off my work as well as it being used for daily duties.
mainly due to one of my customers giving me cheap storage so i can put it to one side and get on and sort my other cars out while i gather the parts i need to build it.
my eventual goal is to have it looking stock on the inside and outside except for some lowering and alloy wheels, but have newer fuel injected 16v engine and 5 speed gearbox with uprated brakes etc.
i'm currently looking to Australia for panels. it's gonna need a lot...
i've sorted out an engine already. a CA16DE came up for sale, cheap and complete and will do what i need it to do and provide enough power and should return good fuel economy. 120BHP engine in a 700kg car.

well despite the fact i'm not gonna be starting work on this for at least a year... i have been buying parts. obviously i'm looking out for and buying any panels i can. but i've also sorted out an engine and gearbox. plus i've got some cut n shut 280ZX struts (ones off my Laurel as i'm buying something else for that) so engine choice, well i want something newer and more powerful then the old 1200cc A series. needs to be good on fuel as well so i can use it often. i've ended up with a CA18DE. i didn't want a DET as it would require a much larger rear axle/diff and the extra power would be to much of a handful in such a small car. plus it makes it a simpler install and no intercooler. hell it might end up with a DET at some point, but for now that's not my plan. engine i've got is an unknown. it's been kicking around a few different sheds and owners and no one has used it. they even thought it was a 1600 but as it's got CA18 stamped on it i reckon it's a safe bet it's a 1800... no pics of that. just looks like a dirty engine.. i'll strip it before i use it anyway. also bought a blown up DET for things like inlet manifold, engine brackets, alternator bracket etc. poor thing. the owner had it in the car and it started knocking under load... so he decided to do a few oil changes and buy a bigger turbo... greensmilies-025g rather then pull the sump off and fix the bearings/crank. obviously it blew up. anyway also got hold of a scimitar SS1 gearbox. these came with a Nissan CA18ET engine. one thing this gearbox does have is an adapter so i can use a cable clutch. this might be pretty handy in the B110 as there isn't much room if i had to convert to a hydraulic master cylinder. so. more stuff i need to store...

should be great fun with the ca18de in.my brother had a starlet running one and it really did shift. . it did do 2 diffs and a few half shafts though but was used to its full potential.

I'll be very interested in this engine conversion, ease of fitting, what parts are required and how much it all costs as this is one conversion I'm considering for my B310! I also want something simple and inexpensive but with a bit more grunt and slightly more modern! Should fit the bill! Interesting that's it's also in the Scimitar :-)
Also if u get stuck for any parts I know a fair few Datsun people in NZ that could help! Let me know!

Let me know! shipping seams to be the biggest issue. i can get a lot of panels but getting them here is the issue.

Reece and I put a CA in a B310. They fit pretty well. The subframe had to be modded a bit. Later it was changed to a CA DET . The car is still about, current owner is in Scotland I think.

Will the standard diff on a B310 work with the CA18 DE or will that and the prop need to be changed for something else? I think I'll be sending you a message when I get closer to doing this :-)

FWIW my old MX5 engined (150bhp) car blew up a standard H150 (late B210/B310) diff so depending on how you drive will depend on how long it lasts.
