Put some 14s on my 120y but have the existing 13 spare. Is this really stupid or will it let me limp home safely?

if this is for the Mazdat then no. it's no good as you have an LSD diff in the back and big brakes in the front which need 14inch wheels.
if it's for the yellow one? then sure. it'd be fine to get you home.

A different size spare is not ideal, but it is what it is - ie an emergency spare, The rim diameter is not important (as long as it fits at least) but the overall diameter of the tyre may be. However in my opinion a proper spare wheel of slightly wrong size is infinately better than any space saver fitted on a modern car.

So long as the tyre isn't shredded, it will get you home. Have used one before and they are pretty good; the repairers will have to clean out the tyre before fixing the "hole" but didn't charge me any more.

Hmmm. I certainly would be very cautious about driving far or fast with a punctured tyre sealed with goo, let alone a spacesaver wheel (restricted supposedly to 50mph). And yes I carry a can too, as well as a spare wheel. Meant to say before ..... - that lots of new cars that are still supplied with proper spare wheels (ie as opposed to space saver) come with a different wheel & tyre size - eg a Corsa suppied with 15" alloys has a 14" steel wheel & full spec spare (H rated etc) tyre.
