Those brochure photos were taken at the Weald and Downland Museum. A favourite of the banger racers, the 430 really has become a very rare car. They're a bit of an oddity really, with the older L-series engine but cleaner, slightly less chintzy looks than the previous 260C/280C. Not immediately much different to the 300C, which has the benefit of more modern running gear. 1980 Datsun 280C saloon press photo (UK) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr The general public seemed to think about as much of them as previous big Japanese cars, with Datsun UK importing 1331 saloons and 1156 estates, plus five LHD cars and one diesel-powered saloon (presumably as part of the Type Approval process which they shared with other European importers). 1980 Datsun 280C Estate press photo (UK) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr The shot above is a slight oddity, as I don't think estates were actually sold here with those wheeltrims, although they certainly were elsewhere in Europe as shown here on Iwan Vlaar's spectacular example: 1980-83 Datsun 280C Estate (430) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Like previous Cedric estates, it featured a fold-down 3rd row of seats and opening window to the LH side of the loadbay. As mentioned, engine was the good old carb-fed L28S with either 5-speed manual or 3-speed automatic gearboxes on either saloon or estate (no saloon auto/estate manual only like 300C). Sadly it seems to have come off the road in 2001, but Graham has continued to own a very nice series of big Datsuns. Didn't last beyond 1997. 1983 Datsun 280C estate (430) c.2002 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Someone offered me this in exchange for a 300C I had at the time, with the addition of £600 cash his way. I've had a few 430s. I like the dashboards and the vacuum operated heater controls etc. Rear axle is on 4 link on sedan with discs and leafs and drums on the wagon. The cars seem to rust like anything. 300C gained macpherson struts up front and EFI V6 but the steering was pretty poor on 300C (worse than 280C)
