I've always found the 330 to be a bit of an oddball. I like the styling, it's an attractive car but if you didn't know and faced with the 2 cars for the first time, you could almost swear that the 230 was the more modern design! The fact that the 330 was available up to 1980 makes it even more strange. Datsun styling was always a little behind the times I think, not in a bad way as they had some fantastic designs (the reason we're all here!) but always just a little bit on the dated side. Their insistence on faux-US styling in the early 70s didn't help though it makes for some fantastic shapes for us!!

Totally agree that the earlier 230 series cars look the more modern.
maybe Nissan went with this curvy design because they had the boxy Laurel C230 as an alternative and thought the buyers could have the option of either style?
both cars are similar size, the laurel had a slightly smaller engine and possibly less weight. so would be compareable.
mind you, the suspension on the Cedric was much lower tech then the laurel, being leaf sprung rear and heavy front end with large crossmember and double wishbones.
