Hi I have recently bought a 100a And was curious to if anyone has done a engine conversion on one and what they fitted. Cheers

anything from a 1200 to 1500 A series engine can be fitted without tooooo much drama. 1500 might need some clearancing to the sump pan and the rest would need some fiddling with the alternator, water pump and manifolds. first thing you'll wanna do is uprate the brakes though.... look for a 120A for a servo. and prob a N10 120A will have the best brakes that will fit straight on. which model do you have? E10 or F10?

the engines i mentioned are the only ones that will fit without having to change the gearbox.
the gearbox is the main issue with the E10, F10 and early N10. it's situated below the engine. the front subframe is designed for that type of engine/gearbox setup, so any thing else will require a lot of work and most likely a complete redesign of the front end. such as grafting in the complete front end of a N14 Pulsar, inner wings, all suspension mounting etc from the bulkhead forward. at least that way you'd be able to fit decent brakes and suspension that could handle the engine.
but then if you're thinking about putting a fuel injected, turbo charged engine into anything that old, that only came with a small engine, then it's obviously not going to be easy....

Sounds like alot of work to convert is there any engine mods I can carry out to original engine?

there was a race tuned version of this engine, but i would think it would be hard and expensive to get them parts. easiest thing would be to fit an A12 engine from a 120A. but your not gonna gain much power.
there are obviously loads of options available, but it all comes down to your budget and skill level.
so how much can you spend? and how good are you?

There are few articles worth seeking out from period car magazine who tested a 1974 'Samuri' tuned 120A, which managed a 0-60 time in less than 9 seconds. They used the existing A12 lump, with a series of bolts ons and fairly extensive engineering. Janspeed also tuned a 100A in 1972, and offered loads of goodies. I personally would work on finding a good A12 lump and engineer the block, pistons, exhaust and brakes. Store the original A10 in a matchbox or something in case you ever want to sell it!

I know of a race tuned A12 engine that was bored out to 1270 or 1296 cc, larger pistons and has had extensive work done and propelled a vey successful rally car. It was only swapped for a bigger capacity A series as owner went up a class. Whilst the engine may run, as is, it would be wise to refresh it with new gaskets etc. if you are serious PM me. Would make a proper screamer
