My current brokers tried to renew my Datsun insurance with my existing company. In order to comply with their question about modifications, I told them that I had now got alloys fitted. The current Insurers then refused to insure me . What the hell?? However, the brokers then found another insurer offering the same cover including alloys for £81 fully comp. with breakdown cover and 5K miles. Happy days, eventually .
However, does this now mean that I have to disclose this incident when they ask " Have you ever been refused insurance" which seems to be a standard question?

I am no legal expert but I believe that what actually happened is they have said they can no longer insure you due to a change. This is different to a refusal so you should be ok?
I had similar a few years back on a triumph - they wouldn't insure it with a V8 in it. I had two claims in fairly quick succession after that and neither time was it questioned - and as we all know, insurers will do literally anything to get out of a claim so I'm sure they done their digging!

Why not just tell them? They will likely tell you that it doesnt count but all the same, you have told them and the conversation will probably have been recorded etc. I tell my insurer all the guff - winter tyres where appropriate, & when they ask about body mods, spoilers etc I even tell them about mud flaps. They may dismiss but at least I have been open.
