Evening all, been 10 years or so since last post, I was just wondering what the best option (sorry for the purists) for a six cylinder engine that would bolt up to my dogleg gearbox is? I would like it to be period so no RB20,24,25 etc 24valve would be nice. Thanks in advance.

Wow....you will need to chop either the firewall or the radiator support panel or may get away with an ultra slim type radiator. ...but. The question that keeps resonating is WHY 6 cylinders?

I hope you have a large stash of doglegs cuz you're gonna need them with the torque of a six. The car is front sump so a CA18det (out of 200/240 sx) would probably drop in much nicer. in my opinion
We got KA24de engines in our 200/240sx-s so i'm going off what a few locals to us have done.

Just love the sound, just wanted a 2 litre six, can be a 12valve, something period, what is the weak spot on the dogleg box?

Just love the sound and the smoothness, just wanted a 2 litre six, can be a 12valve, something period, what is the weak spot on the dogleg box? Did the Violet GT not use the same dogleg gearbox?

it's just not going to fit in the engine bay. you'd need to hack the front slam panel out and/or the bulkhead. i did look at chopping one into an 810 but the amount of chopping required and the fact the radiator would also need a load of reworking ment it was a no go. the new rules regarding modifying cars means any cutting about of the car's structure, such as the bulkhead or even gearbox tunnel, mean the car will lose it's identity and need to go through a IVA test too... www.gov.uk/vehicle-registration/radically-altered-vehicles

If you want the sound, just build a L18 grunter...with high compression , reworked head and fully balanced, it will do the job nicely when mated to a sports exhaust and twin DCOE carbs. Not cheap but worth it ...
Whether you want a 2 litre 6 or a 2.8 litre six, size wise they are same so equally hard to get into the bay...as for violet GT boxes, these were competition rally cars so had updated gearboxes which could cope with added bhp/ torque. The factory box should be good for 150-180bhp if you have a good working example.
Whereabouts in the. Country are you ?

Thanks for putting that to bed. I will stick with 4 cylinders. Yes I am the very proud owner of NNP. Canterbury. Can't wait to get BEF back on the road and will be attending the next significant show. Many thanks.
