Hi,
Ive had my Cherry Turbo for 11 years now always garaged, low mileage, fully restored, seldom used. This year I got it out in the Summer and MOTed it but unlike when I put it away a couple years ago it had now developed a lack of power fault.
Symptoms were complete loss of power above 2500 - 3000 rpm.
Took it to a local specialist garage who eventually diagnosed it as a faulty fuel pump. Fortunately I had a used spare which was fitted and worked but it seemed that although this was fixed there was still an issue which turned out to be a blow head gasket between 2 of the cylinders. So got this problem fixed at the same time.
After that the car was great good boost lots of power just how I remember them to be, lots of fun (even though I tend to drive like Miss Daisy).
Made a bit of use of it in the summer maybe adding 5-600 miles then decided today to have its 6 month oil and filter change. This was done at my local garage and on collecting the car discovered that it was back to how it was prior to the fuel pump head/gasket change, complete lack of power above 2500 - 3000 rmp and loosing all the time.
So completely lost on this one, is there anyway an oil flush and change could stuff my car this bad, Is it coincidence, and is the power loss resulting from the possible failure of my spare replaced used fuel pump or from the possibility of the head gasket blowing again. There was never an explination for it going the first time yet there must have been an underlying cause. I was never advised or told to return the car to have the head tightened down, think this is now something that is no longer done.
Any helpful thoughts would be appreciated. I will obviously be following up my leads from the previously used garages as to the problem but wondered if there was any specific Nissan / Cherry knowledge that may shed light on unforseen weaknesses.
I get the feeling that fuel pumps are now only available from Nissan Japan if they still have stock. Assuming this is a Nissan Cherry Turbo specific part or was it shares with any other Model eg: Sunny

the fuel pump should be pretty universal. Has it got any part numbers on it?
Is it possible the garage disconnected something, such as an air hose when doing the oil change?
Most likely though, is that the head itself has cracked and would need replacing, or specialist repair.

Wonder if the hose to the fuel pressure regulator has been disconnected? Without it receiving the boost signal, the motor will go lean and hold back

checked the connections at the airflow meter?

You can use a tyre pump to check the fuel pressure of the fuel rail, does it have a schrauder connector? If so just connect a tyre pump to it and either jumper the relay or just turn on the ignition. You should have just about 35psi with engine not running, 30 with (at Idle), fuel starvation at high RPM (actually load as rpm make so much difference) is hard thing to diagnose.
