I have been very quiet for a month or two, but I am now moved in to a house near Cheltenham, very close to Prescott hillclimb. Best of all the double garage is spacious so I can at last get on with tidying up some of the grot on my 910 estate. My Bluebird is affected by lots of areas where the paint is undermined, primer having given up. I am now getting around to attacking these areas with the wire brush on my angle grinder, then kill the rust & (try and) make good with rattle cans. Sadly my painting will never be a match for Ricky's and many of your efforts I have seen. However I am perplexed by a blister on the tailgate that extends under the window rubber. I have removed the chrome spreader strip so that the rubber can be lifted away from the paint, but how can I hold it out of the way when I am wire brushing etc and also so that I can repaint under the window rubber? Are there any clips or trick tapes that body shops use for lifting rubbers out of the way ie without removing the window? Thanks in anticipation Ed

Leigh (Area rep)Haynes museum is over 2 hours away from me now so no I wont be there regularly - maybe for special "events" like Russ Swift or Rare Breeds. Sorry it also means no "guided tour" of the museum for any of you from me too. Still struggling with errant paint on the heap ..... Ed

Hi, Ed. Just trying to think logically. If you don't want to take out the rubber because it is a small area, how about some matchsticks either side of the blister? As the rubber will be over the "repair" it won't matter how it looks underneath....

When respraying a car with a really old rubber that I don't want to risk removing I wedge eletrical cable around the perimeter, but i wouldn'd do that if i needed to deal with rust, i'd pop the window out and refit it when I was done.
