I only ever seem to post when I need help ...... I needed /wanted to rejuvenate the front suspension of my 1983 W910 Bluebird (ie 910 estate). However the KYB listed inserts (parts 665014 or 365011) are end of life and no longer obtainable. Assured that the struts on saloons, coupes and estates were same size (and I seemed to corroborate that with cross reference charts to other manufacturers) I have bought 2 910 saloon inserts - KYB ref 364003. They look the part however when put against the strut they are about 8 cm too long. Picture attached. Help? What should I do? The struts (at least the 1st side I have removed) appear not to have cartridge inserts too and so may be rebuild-able as an alternative? Picture attached of this too. Ed

In order to get the car back onto its wheels and back onto the road (I do want it out for marshalling WRGB in Hafren next week .....) I will clean it all up, put the new strut /tie bar poly bushes on that I have, swap a track rod end and refill the struts with fresh oil pending finding better inserts for another day.
So now then - my new question....... What is the oil to use inside the struts? Mr Haynes says "325ml of Nissan genuine strut fluid".
I haven't yet posed that one of my local Nissan dealer, but can I presume hydraulic fluid (eg motorbike fork oil?) will do, in which case what viscosity (eg SAE 10 etc)? I would be tempted to say leave well alone - but I am committed now as one strut has drained some of its oil out anyway when the upper screw was removed as in pic above. Ed

Hi, Ed. Try ringing Al on the number up top. He's just about done everything with struts. It's a start.

For the record ..... Both these struts are "wet" so pistons etc are set within the outer case, and oil filled. After removing the gland nut (so as in the picture of the strut top above) I drained all the old oil out - takes a while with some piston pumping, and dribbled SAE10 fork oil in to replace until full, working the piston to suck the oil in and the air out. Damper action is now much smoother particularly with the offside strut that seemed to have rather less oil in it. Used less than 1 litre of oil for both struts (I guess about 300 - 350 ml per strut). Car now back together with new (Superpro) tie bar bushes, bearing regrease, front brake service etc... and is now much tauter and front suspension is quieter too. Tracking to be checked after a little use. Now I need to return or find a home for 2 gas pressurised KYB inserts that will fit a 910 saloon ... (they would have been so good for my car, if only) Also need to try and work out what front struts will interchange with mine in future - I am guessing /hoping that they were not unique to these very last (ie coil rear sprung) 910 estates - as above my strut bodies are shorter /springs longer than for a 910 saloon or (I guess) early /leaf sprung 910 estate.
