Bought this Datsun F11 100a cherry wagon a couple of weeks ago off here, finally got around to having a look at it and lifting the bonnet up only to find out there's oil in the coolant, could this be a head gasket problem?? Looked at the oil on the dipstick and looks very clean, and no milky residue I s visible on the oil filler cap. Any advice would be very welcome Cheers Stew

Hi, Stew. How do you know it is oil in the coolant? Sometimes you can get an oily-looking film on the top of the radiator filler but this can be just some of the gunge from the rad floating around. Stick a wad of paper towel into the filler to "mop up" the film and see if it really is oil. If it is, then it could well be the head gasket but don't panic as it is quite easy to sort.

Ok fella will try that, reason for thinking it was oil because I put my finger down the neck of the radiator and on taking it out it was covered in a brown oily substance, definitely a combination of sommat that doesn't mix, was separating on finger. Would it be still ok to run and where's the best place to get a head gasket set from?? Cheers Stew
