I have bought a Datsun laurel 2.4 straight 6 (it has Nissan cast in the rocker cover) , five speed , I bought for the engine and box but the car is to good , has anyone owned one of these and what are they like ? it is a pity to break but it may go this way so anyone looking for spares (engine and box not for sale)

I own a 1980 Laurel and like it a lot. Looks are in the eye of the beholder of course, but they're smooth and comfy things to drive although not particularly fast. I would guess yours is the following model (1981-85).
I'd be interested to know which car it is you bought and whether it's a known one to us. WHat is the registration please? (PM me if you'd rather not answer in public).
Did you buy it for use in a Beauford or similar kit car?

sit down I bought it for a morris minor , I have seen it done before and I have the minor which is to slow as it is , the Datsun has not been on the road for over 20 years ,fuel down the carb and it fired up and sounds sweet , 70,000 miles from new its to good to break I think , I will see if I like it after ive sorted the brakes , it came with some history and the V5C its also on the dvla web site ,I will post some pics its very original

A six pot in a minor? Unlikely to fit and certainly won't do anything for the handling.... you can't even get a fiat twin cam in one without chopping up the bellhousing.

I would not be chopping the bellhousing and they do fit , having said that the car is for sale here at the moment as its too good to butcher I think , if it sells I will buy a SD1 I have been offered and go down the V8 route (they don't sound as nice as the straight 6 I think ) if it does not sell I will keep to the original plan ,its my winter proect which I will start in about 3 weeks . heres the moggi

I may well have a proper Nissan workshop manual spare. I'll try and have a look tomorrow night.
