Opinions please...
120y coupe b210. What speed could you get to before you could possibly damage the gearbox or diff? Standard 4 speed box.
Discuss!

Hmmm... strange question??? With a standard engine I would think you could drive it flat out in top with no damage to the 'box or diff' if the fluids are correct. Put a more powerful engine in and you're talking different torque stresses that could cause something to give. I'm intrigued... why do you want to know this?

Its got an A14 mildly modified. oval port head skimmed and gas flowed. janspeed manifold with ss exhaust. it seems to be quite nippy! Basically I'm worried about the box and diff. Just fully stripped the gearbox with syncros out. Alll looked fine. Filled it with 10w/40 oil. Also stripped the axle with planet gears out, wheel bearings, crown wheel, the lot. Again all looks good. rebuilt with 80/90 GL5 oil with a Forte additive.
All's in good working order. I'd like to keep it that way!

The 120Y B210 came with a 1.2l or 1.4l engine originally and so, I presume (unless anyone tells me otherwise), the running gear was the same. It would have been able to to cope with both engine's BHP (68/85?). From what you've described I would think that the amount of extra horses you have wrung out of this memorable engine is unlikely to cause any problems. It's not so much the speed; more the acceleration and revs that would cause problems to the drive train and engine respectively. Not an issue for you. Enjoy!

The best answer possible! Brilliant! So as long as it gets to it's top speed smoothly (obviously on a test track) I should be okay.
Thanks for that!
