Hi all!
I had a problem with the boot struts loss of gas in them. Had no luck finding any new ones, and companies that provide new ones wanted £100+ for replacements. Anyway, after much measuring up of boot and bonnet struts of cars coming into my garage I've eventually found a suitable replacement... Mini (R50 model) bonnet struts! Bought a second hand pair off ebay for £6 and Tada! Jobs a good un!
Not sussed out the heated rear window wiring yet but that should be hard. Ideal length and perfect pressure!

Can you not fit the contacts from the Datsun struts?

I've not got around to doing that bit yet. Shouldn't be too much of an issue. Just need half hour spare!

The contacts didn't fit, so what I did was use one of the originals, with the contact for the 12v supply. I earthed the HRW on the other side permanently by just a short wire drilled into the tailgate.
Pressure was spot on for holding the tailgate up. In fact, one mini strut held it up (just). That side was used for the earth. The other original datsun strut just added balance with the ability to add the contact switch.
Hope that make sense and helps.
