Looks like the lawyers are lining up to take Nissan to court for similar issues to those created by VW with their emmissions scandal. I have seen ads appearing on the TV about other manufacturers who are accused of this scam. If I could have afforded to buy a relevant Nissan, I would have and might now be looking at a payout. However, I only seem to be able to buy old Nissans... hurrah!

Hmmm...do you think I'll get a payout for my '81 Cherry? I mean I only acquired it because I love trees and all that. I feel so used!
As far as these emission irregularities, I think every manufacturer had some sort of under the counter software. Perhaps that has now stopped and a good thing if it has. Perhaps with everything that's going on in the world right now we should just move on?
I still maintain that old cars are good for the environment. Overall their carbon footprint is quite small compared with the Jones's that replace their car every year or 2 with a new one...but maybe I'm bias...I like old cars.

By all means fine the manufacturer but send the money to environmental projects. And what about the second-hand market for these "filthy" cars? Will it impact on values? Nah! People will still buy them.... and won't give a moments thought about the environmental impact etc. etc.
If the courts decide that an individual buyer should get compensation, then that owner's car should be scrapped in order for them to get it.
In any case it's only the lawyers who win (again)

Hi Leigh,
I agree. I'm sure that there will be a very small percentage of people who did base their choice of car on the effect it would have on the environment but the overwhelming majority considered other things when choosing.
The environment is important so I certainly would not rubbish national attempts to improve on it but most of the people screaming about this actually just want some free cash to compensate the trauma they have suffered by buying the car!
Old cars still rock! Their long lifespan means they actually have less of a carbon footprint...plus you meet a much nicer type of person with an old classic!
