From the 1st of May 2021 motorists will not be able to claim solicitors fees as part of their personal injury claims up to £5,000 per person. The government has introduced a law regarding the pursuing of personal injury claims by motorists and passengers, the reason for this legislation is that the government want to lessen personal injury claims in particular for whiplash. Perhaps the courts are getting too clogged up with these cases?
More serious personal injury claims over £5,000 will remain covered by the Insurance on your Legal Protection Insurance Policy by Solicitors as before. The amount of cover is up to £100,000 which is the most offered by the Insurance industry.
When you insure/re-insure your car you'll see lots of additions that you can purchase at an extra premium; Breakdown cover, Protected No Claims etc. as well as Legal Protection Cover. I guess most don't want to add these things en-mass due to the cost but with this new law coming in you might want to consider the Legal Protection aspect for injuries etc.that don't reach the £5,000 threshold.
From my experience, it is better to go on-line for this rather than get your insurer to add it as they will charge you about £30. I currently have my two classics and my Mondeo covered for £33-00 and this includes legal cover for injuries up to £5,000 as well as above.
The list of what is covered in addition to my standard car policy is EXTENSIVE. It's worth looking into this.
