Anyone who passed their car driving test after January 1st 1997 will no longer have to sit a test in order to tow a trailer or caravan weighing up to 3500kg maximum authorised mass (MAM) from this autumn. The actual date is still to be decided but actual tests stopped from September 20th. This change was to enable more lorry tests to be undertaken to combat the shortage of lorry drivers in the UK.
