I do have a manual, but find it easier to use the Nissan Service Data & Specification Books for things like this. Easy to cross-refer between different models then. My 1987 issue says:
FS5W71C, ratios for L24E 1st 3.321, 2nd 1.902, 3rd 1.308, 4th 1.000, 5th 0.838. Final drive for R200 3.700 (man), 4.111 (auto). Don't have figures immediately to hand for solid axle L24E model.

thankyou. that 5th ratio is just not high enough for my 280c diesel. i need something like the .745 that came in the later 280zx's can you tell me if any others came with that .745 5th? and what had the highest ratio h190 diff? (solid axle as fitted to laurels, cedrics and some 620,720 2wds) i don't ask for much interesting to see the big gap between 1st and 2nd on the c32 though.....

From memory, only the VG30-powered C32 got that ultra-long 5th. Possible that something like non-turbo Z31 did too? Probably easier if I scan a page or two of the book.

Highest ratio H190 is 3.545 fitted to SOME 620 pickups mainly US and AUS. I looked into this quite a lot and I nearly bought a h190 on aus ebay but with the time difference i missed the end of auction, went for £150 and was the disc braked type.

yes i thought the 620 had high ratio axle. Datman seams to think the one's he's buying from Oz have very low ratios....?
i need to ask him about getting me a diff.....

It varies a lot, the only way you'll find out is if the guy selling it knows or is willing to find out. H190 available diff ratios 3.7 - 3.89 - 4.11 - 4.44 - 4.6 - 4.9 and 5.1:1 These are also found in Nissan Gazelles (solid rear end) and series 3 Nissan Bluebirds. 3.7 & 3.9:1 are the most common ratios in the bluebird/gazelle's.
I one i missed bidding on was 3.9 from a bluebird wagon.

Regarding the high 5th gear ratios, the only ones that we're likely to find here with 0.759 are in Y30 and Z31 it would seem (I'm making assumption that Z31 non-turbo models got the FS5W71C 'box, as it also lists FS5R90A).
This ratio apparently also made it to VG30S-powered C32 and Middle East R31 with RB30S, not exactly common here!
Regarding the final drive, looks like most options have been covered above. Only other possibility is European C32 auto with RD28, that's listed with 3.545.

Yeah it was a whole axle with disc brakes, was gonna swap the whole thing in when i do the engine conversion. It was a bit wider but not much.
