Hi folks , Does anyone know if the datsun 240k engine is identical to the Nissan laurel 240 ? I have a 1986 Nissan with a seized engine and have chance of an engine from a 1972 skyline 240k GT but not sure if it will fit my auto gearbox , or if my carbs on the Nissan would fit the 240k which is injected at present . Thanks for any help ! Roland...... (newby ! )

well i am confused, you don't say where you are from but I've not seen a 1972 injected engine and I have not seen a 1986 'Laurel 240' with carburettor. If it is a C32 Laurel it is likely to have a Lockup/overdrive transmission and therefore different flex plate but this should bolt to an early engine along with the transmission.

Thanks for replying and sorry I confused you ! I am up in yorkshire and have just joined the forum which looks great ... My car is laurel 2400auto 1986 - engine no l24-663509 , and it has a hitachi carb . The engine I have chance of buying is from a 1972 datsun 240k gt skyline . It is also currently hooked up to an auto box and it is injected . I would hope to switch my carb onto it . Much appreciate your advice..... Unless anyone knows where I might get a laurel engine from........ Cheers

it's likely the 240k injected engine your looking at is from a C210 model, so 77-81 ish and the seller is wrong about the age. as for whether it fits i can't give you a definitive answer. I'd say it would, the only issue being if the inlet manifold will swap over ok as the injected engine has cut out in the head and/or manifold for the injectors. another thing to check is the possible the power steering pump. cars without power steering have a fuel pump mounted on the engine where the pump would be. if yours has power steering you should be ok as an injected 240k engine would have power steering as well. oh and welcome.

I have saved a link that I spotted all about Z cars & 6 cylinder engines that may be of interest: datsunzgarage.com/engine/Sadly it is (I guess) an American site so models & suppliers etc may not translate well for UK.
