For anyone who hasn't got the space or money to build up a big collection of 1:1 cars and doesn't want to deal with rust etc, how about models? I'm sure there's a few of us on here who have some, my preference is for 1:24 scale plastic kits by the likes of Tamiya, Fujimi and Aoshima which I (slowly) build myself. Here are the Datsuns/Nissans I've completed, there are many more unbuilt ones on the shelf! Doyusha 1:24-ish Nissan Cherry X-1R (E10) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr The Doyusha range covers some cars which nobody else has modelled, trouble is they're not always very accurate or well-proportioned! Tamiya 1:24 Nissan Skyline 2000 Turbo (R30) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Tamiya Skyline (R30) Complete at last! by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Tamiya Skyline (R30) Complete at last! by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr There are loads of versions of the R30. I'm toying with turning another saloon into a hatchback. Tamiya 1:24 Nissan Silvia K's (S13) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr 1:24 Fujimi Nissan Fairlady Roadster by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Regrettably this Fairlday got knocked onto the floor and now needs a bit of repair work before completion. Many of the kits have only simple detailing, with no engine, only basic suspension and maybe even a shallow interior, as they're often designed to be motorized. However, with a bit of thought about wheels, colour and ride height I think most offer lots of potential. I know Ratdat has built a few too, and others on here have a few diecast models. Perhaps we could see a few more?

Not so much choice at that scale with wheel swapping, but I sometimes think cheap diecasts or even toys would be a good source for them. On my 1:24 kits the wheels either came in accessory sets (as on the R30s) or were robbed from another kit (S13 and Fairlady). Here’s a selection of what I have (some have come and gone since this photo): Fujimi & Aoshima 1:24 accessory wheel sets by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Other accessory packs are available, although often you find these and the wheels above are contained in a full kit. Fujimi 1:24 accessory arch/spoiler sets by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr The Japanese makers, Fujimi and Aoshima in particular, are very good at issuing the same kit over and over again in various series, with different box art, wheels, spoilers or whatever. This C110 is one of the sillier kits I have: 1:24 Nissan Skyline 'Ken & Mary' Noppo 4dr (C110) by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr Don’t discount the American makers either, especially for 510 and 620/720. Predictably most makers have a Z/ZX in their range: 1:24 Monogram Datsun 280Z Road Racer kit by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr This is about 75% of my stash out in the shed: Model car kit collection June 2011 by Spottedlaurel, on Flickr If I sold them all I could probably buy a half-decent 1:1 car...

When will someone produce a 120Y B210 saloon? One of THE most popular models and I cannot find one anywhere.... I even e-mailed one of the die cast companies here with my suggestion and they replied by saying "Thank you for your communication, however we are not considering this model at the moment" Bah!

Sadly I can’t recall seeing a C130 4dr as a kit, nor as a diecast (but I don’t really know much about the latter). I have a coupe kit in my stash.
I think the C230 4dr hardtop kit has been reissued recently, might treat myself to that at some point (though I’ll probably have to order it from Japan).
Same comment about the B210 really. I have the Doyusha 1:24(ish) coupe kit, but it’s not exactly accurate...

It's very rare to find ANY kits of Datsun 4 door saloons. Occasionally hardtops but very few saloons. Japanese kits largely reflect what was popular in Japan and the cars that are now considered desirable.

B210 2 door is a cool shape, they should make them. I think i have only ONE model car - a C110 coupe.

Good to see someone else at it! Which kit is this, the Doyusha one? I'd guess so from the shallow interior.
