I want to swap the 4 speed gearbox on my 140Y GX. I want a straight forward swap without any mods in order to drop the revs by about 1000rpm at cruising speed.
For those that don't know, the GX is fitted with a L14 engine and by what I can gather, I need to source a short 5-spd gearbox.
Any advice welcome and suggestions too ... and if you have one to spare, please contact me. ;D

i wonder if a long 5 speed would fit if you used an auto propshaft and poss gearbox crossmember?
if you don't mind a dogleg 1st then an A10 SSS gearbox is short.
also C31/R30 with L series five speed might be a shorty.

I think only 710 and A10 SSS had the short dogleg 5 speed.

A long 5 speed wil go into a 510 apparently ...not sure if it would into a PB210 but as they have an L series, I suspect the tunnel may be a bit bigger than the B210 as A-series gearboxes are tiny.
I think C31 is a short box but I don't think I have ever seen one so not certain which box it is.

i put a Mazda MX5 gearbox under a B210 and that fitted with only mods needed to the shifter location.
plently of room in the tunnel.

I had read the thread about the L-series gearboxes ... just making sure we all come to the same conclusion!
One thing I can't/don't want to mess with is the shifter location due to the center console. I'm not fussy about the dog-leg version ... driving a RHD car in a LHD country already has other discomforts

do you know what axle or diff is fitted? might be easier just swaping that for a higher ratio one.

How come you have a RHD 510? I USED to have a RHD 510 which I sold to the UK in February this year ... I probably have the largest collection of RHD in Portugal at the moment - 4 to be exact  |
