1983 Bluebird 910 What Springs Can I use to lower? (Read 1,048 times)

Hi all,

New to the forum could do with some advice.

I bought myself a RWD bluebird 910 very good nick & original.

I would like to lower it, what lowering springs will fit?

As I don't really want to cut the original springs as would like to keep them.

hiya.
i don't think there are any off the shelf lowering springs for any datsun in the UK. you might find some in Australia though.

unless anyone else knows of anything else that fits?

I used S12 ones on front of my slow 910 but they didn't lower it a great deal to be honest. S13's can work on the rear including the shock but with a 910 hat.

Any info on the 910?

So maybe buy the S12 for the front & s13 for the rear and cut them maybe?

All 910 bluebirds are RWD. How many doors has it got?

I wouldn't cut springs unless you know what you're doing... Even then, I wouldn't touch a car if I didn't know what I was doing lol

You can buy King springs from Australia. Well known lowering springs overthere.
The best option in europe is a S13 coilover conversion.

At the rear: Just take the S13 coilovers, put the 910 struttops on them and Bob's your uncle.
At the front you need the S13 hubs and brakes and you need to re drill the holes in the struttower. The S13 hubs will fit on the 910 ball joint, so even the front conversion is almost plug and play. The car does need a big allignment job after the conversion.

There is a place in Sheffield that makes up springs to your spec. I havent used them myself (I wouldnt want my 910 any lower), but my son has bought from used them for his Viva.

There is a chance that they still know the spec of OE springs and can work out what you want from there. Alternatively I think Lesjofors (common supplier to trade) still lists some 910 springs but probably standard spec, or maybe Will has some tucked away.

I'm not sure if you would have heard of it but I know the previous owner did advertise it on datman forum. It's the "blackbird" bluebird.

Still not sure if I will keep it.

Think I am just going to lower it. It's a gas guzzler. Been told SSS twin carbs go on? How can I make it faster? Lol

Good to know where your car has got to. It was yet another of Ricky's fleet for a while.
My 910 estate has same engine as yours, and yes the fuel consumption is a bit dismal (25-30 I guess even on a run but dare not measure accurately!).
I dont know what to do to make it better - the car cant be as heavy as modern cars are, mine has lots of compression, the Nikki twin choke carb is probably doing a pretty good job anyway, the timing is right (although Will says to swing it round more). I gather that they were thirsty even when new.
Anyone know a cost effective way to make a L18S engine more efficient?

don't expect a SSS engine to be noticably faster.

i'd imagine the only way your gonna get power out of a L18 is with a camshaft swap (is there much availible?)

or a turbo conversion if your feeling a bit more adventurous ;D

Probably not. Is there any where I could pick up some new HT Leads for mine? (In the country)

Me too - all available from Andrew Page, Unipart & the like. Maybe beware Turkish cb points though - you can get genuine from Nissan dealer (or of course from our Will aka Datman) for not too much.
