Hi all
New to classic cars, bought my first classic car yesterday. Living my dream (Datsun sunny 1.3 dx, 1982)
Car runs fine, it has 33k models on the clock. However, the operating temperature quickly jumps to 3/4, especially on motorway. The radiator had a lot of rust so flushed out twice.
I now need a radiator drain valve Gasget (the rubber seal where the drain plug is). I have a small leak. Where can I purchase this from?
I was wondering if it needed a new thermostat and again where can I purchase one from. Ideally, I would prefer a Cool running thermostat.
Finally, in my younger days, I had to replace the head Gasget, many times. I don't want to go through the same scenario and I was wondering what I need to do as preventative maintainace to avoid this.
Many thanks

Ebay usually turns up those drains plugs, I might have a spare if you can't find one. Same with the thermostat ebay is your friend. I put an 82 degree on in mine so it opens earlier, like you I know from painful experience just how prone this engine is to overheating. There's not a lot you can do really other then ensuring the fan and temperature switches function correctly, thermostat opens properly and you keep the antifreeze at the correct level and mixture. I drive along with one eye on the gauge all the time!! I suppose neglect is the main downfall.

I have original Nissan thermostat kits, and I will throw in a free drain plug washer I think these engines had a weak spot of cracked heads if I remember correctly.
