don't fit MK1 golf inserts unless you want it sitting on the floor. i'd say the S130 struts will be plenty low enough if you use short bump stops and a stiff spring. i'd start at 180lbs.

I've heard mk2 golf inserts are a happy medium if required! ?
I'm not sure what size or rating spring comes with the eBay civic kit but that will be my starting point and I can adjust from there if required.
Cheers.

MK2 golf are about the same as, or maybe a little shorter then S130. not sure it'd be worth the bother?
and yes. get some bump steer spacers if you can. i don't think they make any difference to bump steer but what they do do is put the lower arms at a nicer angle and put less strain on the tension rods. the tension rods will break on a very low car, ask me how i know... in fact, i've got spacers AND i've had to alter the angle of the tension rods on my laurel to stop them being forced.

ahh thats pretty good point.
only downside to the golf inserts that i can think of is the valving is set up for a front wheel drive car. i have read somewhere that the rebound is a lot higher on the golf dampers compared to the datsun rear wheel drive ones.
not sure how much difference that would make for normal use?

Just to let you all know that I have just made a Pair for my 510 using 280ZX struts, 50mm collars, 300lb springs and alloy top hats. They have long studs in the hubs (Cosworth ones also from Ebay). Here is a before and after shot, and a picture of the struts in final form. Charlie

Good move on the longer studs...280zx units are stupidly short. Hopefully with the stock length strut you will have enough travel if you lower the car? I found that max lowering was aound 40mm ish before bottoming out. Enough for a drop, but not a slamm!
