Before I research this again - whats your current view about petrol for our old /classic cars - ie apart from it being too expensive? I understand that a lot of supermarket fuel may have 10% bio fuel included (ie alcohol) whereas branded has 5%. I also hear that bio fuel may be detrimental to seals & pipes etc in our old cars. However I also hear tales that bio rich fuel from supermarkets degrades much quicker than proper petrol - making a car that has stood for a few weeks (many classics might stand over winter) hard to start up. What precautions are you taking to safeguard your old car? Are you using any additives (I know at least most of our Datsuns do not need a lead replacement)? Ed

I just put petrol in and use it. Only thing I've heard is that E85 requires different fuel lines and seals, not sure if the 5 or 10% is strong enough to need the same?

I know my old 120Y with the mazda fuel injected engine conversion, which i fitted new, branded fuel lines to, has had problems with the fuel leaking through the lines.
pretty worrying really....
two different, new, brands have leaked. and i wonder if this is because of the additives in fuel?

The rubber seal on my filler cap went all soft and gooey and I had to buy a new one (thanks, Will!) which has made me aware that it could be ethanol causing the problem.

Yes, my filler cap seal did the same thing. I generally stick Shell in all the time as well.
