Hi Chaps, ashamedly I am a little confused by all the model numbers and letters for the 70s and 80s datsuns, there seems to be so many. I very much fancy a 3 dr coupe from the 70s, and have fallen in love with the picture of the green car in the middle of the clubs home page. I thought/think its a laurel  would someone kindly advise me. Its a shape thing for me, I also like the Mitsubishi Celeste, which is a similar shape.
Can anyone tell me how easy or difficult it might be to get my hands on a decent Lauren 3dr coupe (if indeed that's what it is). I would love one of these, and would happily forsake my 6000 mile one owner, 1967 bluebird 411 for a nice one ??

That'll be a C30 I think a 240L, someone will correct me. I can't say I have ever seen one of these for sale, you could contact davew on here as he could find you one in Japan and import it for you!  |

I'm not that good with my models butas no-one has corrected me, I am probably right. Why the coupe Laurel? Why not the Skyline if you like big but 2 door?

for me, I guess the skyline looks a bit too aggressive. The laurel and the Mitsubishi celeste were more family cars I think, and being 3dr coupes gave them a bit more style. its a kind of classic car thing as opposed to a sporting car pedigree thing. don't get me wrong I love them all and spent a lot of money on a 240z some years ago. its a bit like I would prefer a morris minor to a souped up Anglia. im strange like that. Plenty of 2 door fastbacks/coupes in the Nissan line up. though not too many of any of em left in the UK. B210 coupe  710 SSS  610 SSS  |

that's what im talkin about !!! very nice pics thanks very much. MORE PLS. the 710 sss is particularly nice. (small, not visually over powering, not trying to be a muscle car, just a sweet looking coupe.) Would a nice example be hard to get hold of ? what sort of price would it be ?

would someone explain in simple terms, the models that were sold in the uk throughout the 70s, and how the model names (cedric, larel, SSS etc) corresponded with the numbers 710, B range, J range. (im a simpleton guys sorry)

pretty straight forward concerning the model names given in the UK... 120/140/160 etc etc refers to the engine size. 1.2/1.4/1.6 etc ect. and the letter on the end refers to the model, so A for Cherry, Y for Sunny, J for Voilet, B for Bluebird, L for Laurel, K for Skyline, C for Cedric and Z for Fairlady. and then there's the Chassis codes, which are the easiest to identify a particular model as they will tell you the model and which generation, but these are tougher to learn... Someone else will correct me (hopefully) the official show is the Retro Rides Gathering in Worcester. I believe this is the 'official' show and has a Datsun stand (see events) and apart from that I believe that the JAE (Japanese Auto Extravaganza) is the 2nd best show but usually full of council estate mcdonalds car park crap these days.

There's so few Datsun era Nissans in the UK that having a meet just for them would be tough....
We try to put a stand together for shows so if you're planning on going, or thinking about going to any shows, put them up in the events section so others can see what's on and join up for it.

As for proper pre Nissan Datsuns, then as far as i'm aware there is only one in the UK. and thats in the Beaulieu museum. All other "Datsun" badged cars ARE Nissans, not pre Nissan  |

We always include later models as it is the natural progression of things.. And sometimes peoples projects aren't done so if they need to roll out in their cube,, that's great as long as they show up. Granted very seldom do come as there's plenty of late model shows but they are always welcome. this came on my 71 Datsun  AND yes i know the screws don't match,, one of the OG rusty ones was dropped when i was cleaning the mold off the back side of plate awhile back and fell into the lost screw vortex |
