Love it. Would rather not see it painted, but then I'm a fan of ratty and (mostly) original rides... Current wheels are almost too nice imho It's nice to see an honest 70s car which looks like they did in the 80s....

if your saw how ratty it is in person you'd understand why it can't be left as-is. it would only last a year before being scraped.
i'll take some photos of the grotty bits.
current thoughts on it, is to repair the holes and make it water tight, paint/protect and seal up underneath. and then maybe spray in some repairs externally and keep it the correct colour.

Great thread and always good to see something brought back from the dead. The main issue is the constant maintenance of the preservation of the bodywork, by default a 'ratty' car like Alramone says will need a complete overhaul within 4 years (remember that the majority of Datsuns seldom lasted more than 8 years) keeping it garaged and limiting the mileage will help too!

Plans sounds good. Don't get me wrong, I'm all for preservation and localised repairs. Just not a fan of cheap resprays. I've bought a tin of coach paint for my E10 for the few small patches which require attention. In the past I've had good results painting small areas with a brush - it's a lot quicker than spraying (much less prep) and in many ways I prefer the way it looks. It's easier to stick to a small area, and preserve more of the car's original paint. I suppose metallic paint's a bit different though. That would call for the closest shade of Hammerite you can find... ;D My dad and I had a super quick and nasty repair technique years ago - paint rusty area with hammerite, allow to dry, apply aluminium tape, paint tape, admire work. Ok it's a botch but is it really any worse than fibreglass/filler/primer/topcoat?

well i've had plenty of trouble free motoring out of this. really impressed with it and its making a very nice daily drive. but due to it not really fitting in with my long term plans i put it up for sale but didn't get any serious interest. so started playing ;D have some pics of progress so far got wheel adapters fitted to convert to 4x100. front wheels will be swapped over to the alloys pretty soon, just gotta fit the tyres. i've got a MK1 golf front spoiler but it's a long way off from being as good fit. i might make up some brackets to fit it, or hunt out or make another one.

If I remember right, Will had one of those A-post aerials for sale not long ago.... bet you could take it off his hands for a quid and then revel in glorious MW/LW!!! ;D
Leigh (Area rep) PS How can your front lights be road legal?
